The Judean Foothills
Follow in the footsteps of the Jewish heroes who fought throughout the generations: King David in Tel Azekah, Shimshon (Samson(Between Tzora and Eshtaol and Bar Kokhba in the tunnels under ground.
Our tour goes back in time towards Bet Shemesh, Tzora and Eshtaol where Shimshon (Samson) grew up. In recent years, a burial site has been discovered in the site, which is attributed to Samson the hero and his father Manoah. We will hear about the history of the region during the different periods.
From there our tour will continue to Tel Azeka. It is the site of a Bible-era city , overlooking the battleground of the famous confrontation between David and Goliath. You can even try your strength and skill with David’s sling.
We will then visit Horbat Qeiyafa. This cite is the remains of a Jewish city from the times of King David and one of the most important archaeological evidence that shows signs of an Israeli kingdom during King David’s reign.
Our next stop will be Beit Guvrin-Maresha National Park. It is an archaeological park where impressive remains of a Jewish and foreign city that had been the capital of the province for hundreds of years were discovered. We will enter huge bell caves, a Roman amphitheater and a tunnel system that connects the remains of dozens of houses together.
From there we will visit underground shelter systems tunneled out by Bar Kochba’s warriors and thus be able to experience the state of mind of those participating in that same war that eventually led to the destruction of the Land of Israel. Due to this war, the Romans exiled the Jewish People throughout the world, changed the name of the Land of Israel to Syria Palaestina, and Jews were forbidden to see Jerusalem.
Yet here we are. We have returned to Eretz Yisrael. The Jewish People are living in their Land once again, reviving its history and its battles.
