The Jordan Valley and the Kinneret
Yosef ben Matityahu (Josephus Flavius) described the Jordan Valley as a paradise on earth. Eighteen hundred years later, an Australian officer in the British army described the area as hell. Today, with the Jewish resettlement of the Jordan Valley, it is once again a flourishing area, and we will get to know some of its most special sites on our way north to the Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee).
Our tour will begin with either an observation point overlooking the Jordan Valley, Mitzpe Yericho in the South, or the Hasmonean Sartaba fortress (Alexandrium) in the center of the Jordan Valley. On our way north, we will stop at a farm where herbs, dates and figs are grown, and pass an ancient site of Jewish worship from the times of Joshua near Argaman.
Teveria (Tiberias), popular with religious Israeli tourists, has plenty of strictly kosher eating places from which we can choose at lunch time. We can visit Degania, the first kibbutz, and stop at one of the many beaches on the Kinneret.
Jewish Israel Tours will show you Paradise on Earth, the Jordan Valley, as it was seen by Josephus so many years ago.
