Israeli settlements Tour
Binyamin Tours
Every place that Jews live in the Land of Israel is an Israeli Jewish settlement. But this term is often used in the context of Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria, which was occupied from the Jordanian monarchy in 1967.
The Judea and Samaria area, which in many cases is called the West Bank, is the basis of the Land of Israel in Biblical times, it was also the center of the state of Judea during the Second Temple period.
Since the destruction of the Temple and the expulsion of the Jews from the Land of Israel, the region had seen many populations who had come to it and left it. During the 19th century, some Arab refugees and deserters from Egypt came to this area. They built villages on the ruins of the cultures that were there before them.
The UN partition plan, which was not accepted by the Arab leadership in Palestine, designated the area of Judea and Samaria almost entirely for an Arab state, but during the War of Independence (1948) the area fell under Jordanian occupation for 19 years.
During the Six-Day War, the IDF liberated this area from the Jordanian occupation.
At first, there was confusion in Israeli society regarding the future of the territories occupied in 1967. Over the years, Jewish settlements began to return to the area. These settlements brought economic and touristic development to Judea and Samaria, which was unparalleled since the Second Temple period.
Today, the Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria is still at the center of an internal Israeli and international dispute.
