Once in the heyday of Jerusalem, the whole city was the Jewish Quarter. But today the situation is a bit different, After centuries of foreign conquests the city is divided into four quarters, Jewish, Christian, Armenian and Muslim.
The Jewish Quarter was the area in the Old City that the Jews were allowed to live under Muslim and British rule.
For centuries, many synagogues were built in the Jewish Quarter to visit during our Jewish Mother tours. The Spanish, Ramban and Ruins synagogues tell us stories from the rich past of Jerusalem.
During the Jordanian occupation of 1948, the Jewish Quarter was completely destroyed. For 19 years, Jews could not visit this important place.
